The Dark Reality of Bile Farming
For over a decade, captive Asiatic black bears (moon bears) know only the agonizing reality of illegal bear bile farming. Locked inside cramped, rusted iron cages in dim, windowless sheds, these majestic animals are denied sunlight, fresh air, and the ability to stand or feel the earth beneath their paws. Their lives are defined by relentless physical trauma, severe psychological distress, and despair.

Advanced Medical Triage on the Frontlines
Saving a bear from an illegal facility requires immense precision, courage, and expert veterinary intervention. When conservation teams breach these illicit operations, emergency veterinarians work rapidly on-site under high-pressure conditions.
The bears are carefully sedated, intubated, and monitored with portable vital sign equipment while receiving intravenous (IV) fluids to stabilize their exhausted bodies. Every medical check uncovers the heavy, lasting toll of captivity: severe dental damage from compulsive cage-chewing, extreme muscle atrophy from years of immobility, and chronic organ infections caused by cruel extraction procedures. Yet, every procedure marks the exact moment their exploitation ends.

"Rescuing an animal from a cage is only the very first step. Restoring their natural instincts requires months or even years of dedicated care, specialized nutrition, and environmental enrichment."
The Rehabilitation Journey: Learning to Thrive Again
Having spent their entire lives on hard metal bars, newly arrived bears initially hesitate to step onto natural earth. Slowly, guided by patience and expert sanctuary keepers, they undergo a miraculous transformation.
They are introduced to expansive, leafy semi-wild enclosures near protected forests like Cúc Phương. Here, open air, sunlight, fresh seasonal diets, and freedom from pain replace the shadows of the cage. They learn how to forage for natural foods, climb wooden platforms, and feel soft grass and warm sunshine beneath their paws for the very first time.
